Verpa bohemica

Well, i went mushroom picking with a buddy from work this weekend and hes a pretty solid outdoorsman and hasnt led me a-stray yet and we ended up getting a huge haul of mushrooms. Went back into the woods with the girlfriend today and all in all we ended up with just shy of 30 pounds of Verpas

Having been mainly a chanterelle guy I was excited to get a chance at another species of shroom but after doing some reading i see there is some questionability of the Verpas. Some say eat with caution some say they are fine, some say they can cause gastric issues

What are your guys experience with them?

Tips? Tricks?

We got these from the upper skagit area

They are fine to eat - I've been selling the professionally for 18 years all over the country. Snap off the stems so they're less than an inch below the cap. Make sure you cook them thoroughly and don't eat a whole bunch at one sitting or you can get really bad gas pains. But they're fine to eat. Enjoy.

Yeah, cottonwoods, especially near riverbanks. If there are blackberries mixed in, go there. There may also be some blonde morels hiding in there.
